Emma Deacon and Catherine Rabaiotti successfully prosecuted eight defendants, four of whom were extradited from the Czech Republic, following a joint investigation between the Met Police specialist human trafficking unit (SCD9) and law enforcement agencies in the Czech Republic.
The case involved the trafficking of vulnerable women from the Czech Republic and controlling their prostitution. All but one of the defendants contested the allegations. The two trials lasted a total of five months, involving live evidence from eleven Czech female victims and foreign telephone intercept material. Sentences imposed on the eight defendants ranged from 4½ to 11 years' imprisonment.
Emma and Catherine were instructed by the CPS Special Casework Unit.
