Acquittal for Solicitor Accused of Mortgage Fraud

Kevin McCartney and Andrew Johnson have secured the acquittal of a former solicitor charged with conspiring to defraud mortgage lenders of in excess of £3million.

The defendant accepted the Crown's allegation that those funds passed through the account of the firm of which he was the sole principal, but argued that he was not involved in the fraud.

HHJ Gullick, sitting at the Crown Court at St Albans, was persuaded that the Crown's case that the defendant was party to the conspiracy was sufficiently weak that it should be withdrawn from the jury.
