RIPA/DRIPA and Covert State Surveillance

Nicholas Griffin QC and Robert O’Sullivan QC on 3 February 2015 gave a presentation to Avon & Somerset Police on the state of the law surrounding RIPA/DRIPA and covert state surveillance and in particular the current debate surrounding the obligation of the state to protect its citizens whilst preserving the right to privacy of privileged and confidential information in the electronic age. The talk included an analysis of the impact of Snowdon, the Belhaj litigation and the Paris terrorist attacks and the various ongoing parliamentary reviews. The talk was part of a series on this subject being given by Nicholas and Robert, together with Dominic Lewis, to police forces and solicitors' firms.
