Charlene Sumnall Secures Conviction in Trading Standards Case

Charlene Sumnall, prosecuting for East Riding of Yorkshire Trading Standards Department secured convictions against Stephen Parry for numerous offences contrary to s296ZB of the Copyrights Designs and Patents Act 1988 and associated Money Laundering offences.  This was the first "jail breaking" and "mod chipping" case brought by the authority. Parry ran and operated websites advertising and selling devices and services that circumvented the effective technological measures of consoles manufactured by Nintendo and Microsoft.  The case involved complex technical evidence obtained from multiple foreign jurisdictions.  Charlene had been instructed from the start of the investigation.  Parry was sentenced to 27 months immediate imprisonment.  

The case was reported in the local press.
