Restaurant Manager Convicted of Passing Off Horse Meat as Zebra

Andrew Johnson, prosecuting for Hertfordshire County Council, has secured the conviction of a restaurant manager, who was caught passing off horse meat as zebra steaks.

Kunal Soni managed the Steakhouse restaurant in Watford, which claimed to specialise in exotic meat products. When two trading standards officers carried out a test purchase, they ordered zebra and wildebeest dishes - but found when the meats were analysed that they had actually been supplied with horse and venison.

Mr Soni's convictions were reported by the national and international media, including the Daily Telegraph, Russia Today and the New York Daily News.
