Carer guilty of murdering her father suffering from Multiple Sclerosis

Deanna Heer, led by Jonathan Rees QC, secured the conviction of a carer who claimed she suffocated her father because of his “intolerable” multiple sclerosis as part of a failed suicide pact. Her defence lawyer argued that her actions amounted to assisting a suicide rather than committing an unlawful killing. The jury unanimously found her Guilty of Murder, following a two week trial at the Old Bailey.

The case received widespread media attention. See, for example, The Guardian and BBC.
