Game, Set, Smash!

Richard Padley prosecuted Doce Bakers, Sweet Mahall Ltd and their respective directors for multiple breaches of the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations 2013 at their site in North London. At the first site visit in January 2017 it was noted by Environmental Officers from the London Borough of Enfield that the site was littered with dirty cardboard, broken and dirty equipment including hand wash basins, ready pest access, mould growth and damage to the floor and utility systems. Despite a deep clean taking place in the days following the first visit, at a second visit in April 2017 (during which time control had passed entirely to Sweet Mahall Ltd) noted large numbers of flies landing on uncovered food, dirty food containers, presence of flies and general dirt. It was during the second visit that officers noted staff mashing potatoes with a tennis racquet.

Following an acceptable combination of pleas entered on the day of trial matters proceeded to sentence. Fines and ancillary orders were passed totalling over £152,000.
