Josh Normanton, instructed by Old Bailey Solicitors, successfully secured the acquittal of a defendant accused of Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The trial took place at Guildford Crown Court. The defendant was accused of slashing his neighbour’s face with a knife causing a very serious injury and permanent scarring. A further eyewitness supported the neighbour’s account. The defendant admitted taking the knife to the altercation but claimed he was acting in self-defence and the witnesses were lying. The jury acquitted the defendant of the serious charge as well as the lesser alternative charge of causing Grievous Bodily Harm.
